Mrs, Pearl Mather Dies; Services Held Yesterday Afternoon

Mrs. Pearl Mather, 78, longtime resident of Laurens, died at her home here Monday after noon following a short illness. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p. m. yesterday (Wednesday) at the Laurens Methodist church with the Rev. A. C. Long officiating. Mrs. Amos Hertz and Mrs. Darryl Sloan, accompanied Mrs. Roy Hopkins Jr. sang "In the Garden” and "The Old Rugged Cross."

Pallbearers were Lyle George, Jake Ziegler, George Hoffman, John Fagan, E. B. Pannkuk and
Orrin Ackland. Burial was in the Laurens cemetery, with Hitchcock-McKee Funeral Home in charge.

Born in Wisconsin

Pearl Lucille Ellis was born Aug. 2, 1872, at Monroe, Wis. and at an early age moved with her parents to Iowa. On Dec. 11, 1890, she was united in marriage to Walter M. Mather in Laurens, and to them were born three daughters. Mr. Mather, one of the pioneers of this community, died Dec. 7, 1938. He had been in business in Laurens about 45 years.

Mrs. Mather is survived by her three daughters, Mrs. R. E. Belden of Chandler, Ariz., Mrs. N. E. Wells of Albert City and Mrs. R. M. Hinn of Laurens; five grandchildren, Dr. Walter Belden and Dr. Larry Belden of Chandler, Ariz., Mrs. A. R. Kress of Des Moines, and Marney and John Hinn of Laurens; three great-grandchildren of Chandler, Ariz.; two sisters, Mrs. Viola Jones of Wyndmere, N. D., and Mrs. Frank Martin of Oakland, Calif.; and one brother, Herbert Elis of California.Mrs.
