Dies Unexpectedly; Services Yesterday

Paul E. Brewster, 53, died unexpectedly Sunday following a heart attack at his farm home west of Laurens. Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. yesterday (Wednesday) at the Laurens Methodist Church with the Rev. H. Milo Hall, pastor of the Havelock and Plover Methodist Churches, officiating. A quartet composed of G. W. Moor, Elmer Larson, Don Dallenbach and Clarence Morgan sang "Under His Wings" and "Beautiful Isle." Mrs. Willis Godfrey was organist. Pallbearers were E. J. Kees, Glenn Kees, Cecil Ramsey, Harold Forry, Ed Grupe and Vernon Gulbranson. Burial was in the Laurens cemetery, with Hitchcock Funeral Home in charge.

Born in 1908

Paul E. Brewster, son of Ethan and Belle Brewster, was born April 3, 1908, at Laurens. His entire life was spent in this community, with the exception of two years at Woodbine and four years during World War II. During his early childhood he became a member of the Methodist Church in Laurens. In October, 1941, he joined the civilian construction workers and was sent to Wake Island. In December of that same year he was taken prisoner by the Japanese, and he was held by them for 44 months in China and Japan. He was released in October, 1945.

On Nov. 18, 1946, he was united in marriage to Dorthea Christenson. They are the parents of two children, Betty, 13, and Bruce, 6.

Survivors

Survivors include his wife and children; his mother, Mrs. Belle Brewster of Laurens; one brother, LeRoy Brewster of Newell; and one sister, Faye (Mrs. Harold) Hakeman of Waukee.

His father; one brother, Elbert; and one sister, Lydia, preceded him in death.
