Kathy, the Social Security death index says the state of death was IA, but doesn't say where, of course. Is the John Schmieding who died in 1965 the one you are searching for? I found a Casper Schmieding who was married to a Mary Felsheim in Remsen in the 1880's. My great grandmother was also living in Remsen at that time, and also named Mary Felsheim, and I have been looking for their link to each other. Casper came to IA from Prussia in 1858, and is found in SD in 1900; he appears to have been widowed and remarried by 1895. Is Casper in your family as well? Margie
