Obituaries--Alice S. Deegan

Alice Sabina Deegan, 88, of LeMars, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 1994, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in LeMars.

Mrs. Deegan was born March 26, 1905 in Sioux County, the daughter of Peter William and Alice Sabina Osborne Moir. Her mother died six days later and she came to LeMars to live with her aunt and uncle, Lillian and Russell Moir. They later adopted her.

She graduated from LeMars High School in 1923 and attended Orton School for Girls in Pasadena, Calif. She received a B. A. degree from Morningside College in Sioux City in 1927. She married Joseph F. Deegan Dec. 8, 1928, in LeMars. The couple made their home in Sioux County. He died April 25, 1967. She taught English and Latin at Larchwood. She returned to LeMars in 1970.

Survivors are two daughters, Alice (Joanne) Thiesse and her husband, William Dale, of Little Rock, and Mary Bomgaars and her husband, William, of LeMars; a sister, Mabel Jones and her husband, Willard, of Gig Harbor, Mich; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in LeMars with Rev. Art Richardson and Rev. James Ransom officiating. Burial will be in the LeMars Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today (Monday), with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, LeMars.
