Alice R. Lang, 97, of Vermillion died Friday, April 8, 2005, at the Sioux Valley Vermillion Care Center.

Alice Minerva Richey Lang was born February 8, 1908 in Le Mars, the daughter of Dr. Milton W. Richey and Odessa (Harris) Richey. She grew up in Le Mars, graduating from Le Mars High School. She continued her education at Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tenn., and graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. She taught for several years in country schools.

She married Louis Walter Lang on Oct.16, 1935, in the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua. They lived in Remsen until 1952 when they moved to Vermillion, S.D.

Alice was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational in Vermillion.

She is survived by two daughters, Odessa Lang Ofstad of Kirksville, Mo., and Mary Ruth Lang Malone of Vermillion. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; two sisters, Myrna Brodie and Edna Richey, and a brother Floyd Richey, and three siblings in infancy.

A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. today (Monday) with visitation beginning at 6 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Vermillion. Funeral/burial services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. The Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion is handling the arrangements.
