Anna Burkard, longtime B & B employee, dead
Anna Burkard, 82, lifelong Le Mars resident, died Friday (Sept. 27, 1974) at Sioux City St. Joseph hospital after a brief illness. After suffering a stroke Sept. 10, she was hospitalized in Le Mars and then transferred to Sioux City.
She was born Sept. 3, 1892, in Le Mars, the daughter of the late Fred and Frances (Worff) Burkard.
Miss Burkard began working for the Berg Variety store in Le Mars and when the Boylan family started operating the B and B store she stayed on and continued for 28 years as their employee until her retirement. She was never married.
The Le Mars woman was a member of St. Joseph Catholic church. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph church with Msgr. Dean Walker officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery under the direction of the Luken-Johnson funeral home.
Survivors are a brother, Henry Burkard of Le Mars, and two sisters, Mrs. Eugene (Mary) Ellensohn, Le Mars, and Mrs. Henry (Florence) Wiclac, Sioux City. Also, nieces and nephews.
