Death of Fred Burkard

Fred Burkard died at 11:30 this morning of heart trouble, at the age of 70 years. Mr. Burkard received a broken leg in a fall two years ago and has been suffering ever since, being in bed most of the time.

Deceased was born in Baden Germany on Feb. 14, 1856, and received all of his schoolings there. In July. 1880 he came to America and settled near Freeport, III. A year later on April 26, 1881, be was united in marriage to Miss Frances Worff, who is still living to mourn his loss. Mr. and Mrs. Burkard lived near Freeport for five years and then moved to a farm north of that city. They farmed in this county for 34 years and 6 years ago moved to LeMars. making them residents of this county for 40 years.

Eleven children were born to this union, two having died in Infancy, and Joe died in LeMars eight years ago at the age of 29. Those who survive are William and John of Dell Rapids, S. D.; Henry, Lewis and Mary, living north of LeMars; Mrs. Nick Wollong, LeMars, and Anna and Florence at home. He also leaves a brother, Casper Burkard of Lismore, Minn., and 12 grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Thursday morning at 10 o'clock from the St. Joseph's Catholic church and burial will be made in the St. Joseph's cemetery. Wiltgen's have charge of the funeral
