George T. Frerichs Pioneer Grant Township Farmer Died Monday
George Theodore Frerichs, pioneer resident of Grant township, died Monday, June 7, at the home of his son, Dick Frerichs, after several months illness.
George Frerichs was born August 10, 1869, in Oldenburg, Germany, and came to United States in 1881. He lived two years in Sterling, Ill., before coming to this county, where he farmed in Grant township until 1920. Upon his retirement from farming, he lived in Le Mars until his death.
He became ill in September, 1947, and was taken to Oakdale and later to Sioux City sanitarium before being brought to the home of his son where he died.
On February 27, 1895, he was married to Engelina Eden, who died in 1938.
Three children survive him: Dick Frerichs of Le mars, Mrs. A. K. Rasmussen, Madison, S. D., and Mrs. S. H. Frerichs, Hawarden. He is also survived by three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a brother, Martin, and two sisters, Mrs. Gerd Harms, and Mrs. E. E. Dirks, the latter three all of Le Mars.
Two brothers, John and Edo, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 10, at the Dick Frerichs home at 1:15 p.m., and at church in Le Mars at 2 p.m., with Rev. L. L. Belk officiating. Burial will be in Grant Lutheran church cemetery.
Mr. Frerichs was baptized in the Luthreran church in infancy and confirmed in that faith at Grant township Lutheran church.
