DEATH SUMMONS BRUNSVILLE MAN

Last Rites Held Tuesday for John Harms, Well Known Banker

John Harms, a well known young banker and a resident of Brunsville vicinity all his life, died at his home there last Friday morning, January 25, 1935, following an illness of several months, aged 33 years. He was taken ill last June and since that time had been practically confined to the house and in the hospital several time, the immediate cause of death being acute dilation of the heart.

John Harms was born November 16, 1901, in Grant township, Plymouth county, Iowa, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ihnke Harms, early settlers in the county. He received his early education in the rural schools and was engaged in farming. Later he moved into Brunsville and was employed in the First State bank for eight years and was cashier. He was also a director of the Farmers State bank of Merrill and Westfield.

He was united in marriage twelve years ago with Miss Minnie Dirks, who, with three children, mourns his death. The children are: Marie, 10; Joyce, 5 years, and Gerald, 5 months. He is also survived by his father, Ihnke Harms, of Brunsville; four brothers, Henry, of Le Mars; Charles, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Dick, of Washington township; Herman, of Brunsville, and three sisters, Mrs. B. R. Johlfs, of Iona, Minn.; Mrs. Henry Harms and Mrs. Katherine Dickman, of Brunsville.

His mother preceded him in death two years ago.

Mr. Harms death has cast a gloom over the community at Brunsville and among many friends, who regret the death of a fine young man and citizen, well liked and esteemed in all walks of life. He was always pleasant and cheerful disposition and bore his sufferings and pain without complaint.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the residence at 1 o’clock and in the Grant township Lutheran church at 1:30, conducted by Rev. A. Schempp, of St. Peter’s church, Brunsville. Interment was in the Grant township cemetery.
