Death Claims Grant Township Early Resident

Mrs. George Frerichs Was One Of First White Children Born In That Community

Death claimed Mrs. Frerichs, wife of George T. Frerichs, 30 Fifth avenue NW., at the Sacred Heart hospital Tuesday.

Mrs. Frerichs had been in ill health for a long time and was taken to the hospital two weeks ago.

Mrs. Frerichs was one the first white children born in Grant township and lived all her life in Plymouth county. Her Christian name was Engelina Catherine Eden and she was born December 14, 1874, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melchert Helling. She was reared in the home of her step-father, Dick J. Wilms, and received her early training in the country school.

She was united in marriage with George Frierichs, February 27, 1896. Rev. Al Kleinhein performing the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Frerichs farmed successfully in Grant township before moving to Le Mars in 1919 to make their home.

She is survived by her husband, three children, Dick J. Frerichs, Le Mars, Mrs. A. K. Rasmussen of Madison, S. D., Mrs. F. H. Frerichs, of Hawarden and three grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Herman Popken, Struble, a brother, John Wilms, and her half-sister, Mrs. Marie Beitelspacher of Le Mars.

Mrs. Frerichs was a devoted wife and mother and a good neighbor, highly esteemed in the community.

Funeral This Afternoon

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 in St. John’s Lutheran church, Rev. L. L. Belk officiating, and interment made in the family burying ground in the Christ church cemetery, Grant township.
