George Andrew Carstensen, 67, Merrill, died Saturday at St. Luke hospital, Sioux City, after a long illnees. He had been a patient at the hospital for two weeks.

He was born January 23, 1904, at rural Merrill and was a retired farmer and laborer. He worked for Veale Lumber Co and was a lifelong Plymouth County resident.

Katherine Harms and Mr. Carstensen were married May 12, 1926, at rural LeMars. He was the son of Christian and Ebel Fiebing Carstensen.

Mr. Carstensen was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Merrill.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at St. John American Lutheran church, Merrill. Rev. Harold L. Norheim will officiate and burial will be in Resthaven Memory gardens, LeMars, under direction of the Mauer funeral home.

Survivors are his wife Katherine, rural Merrill; two sons, Wendel C. Carstensen, LeMars, and Ray J. Carstensen, Sioux City; two daughers, Mrs. Charles (Alice) Meins, Cedar Falls, and Mrs. Willard (Mildred) Tietjen, Sioux City; four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; four sisters, Sophia Carstensen, Rochester, Minn.; Mrs. Hans (Gretchen) Simonsen, Rock Valley; Mrs. Edwin (Anna) Stark, Stewardville, Minn; and Dr. Leona Carstensen, Tucson, Ariz.

He was preceeded in death by his parents and a grandchild.
