Rock Valley, Iowa - Gretchen Simonsen, 91 of Rock Valley, died Friday February 22, 1991, at a Rock Valley nursing home.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Our Savior's Luterhan Church, Rock Valley, with the Rev. Jim Demke officiating. Burial will be in HIllside Cemetary, Merrill, Iowa. Visitation will be all day today with family present from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley.

Mrs. Simonsen, the former Gretchen Carstensen, was born Sept. 4, 1899, at Merrill, daughter of Christian and Mabel (Fiebing) Carstensen. She married Hans Simonsen July 21, 1920 at Merrill. Hans managed a creamery in Merrill until the fall of 1958 when they moved to Rock Valley to help their son in his veterinary business. Hans died May 15, 1974. Gretchen moved to the Valley Manor Oct, 2, 1990.

She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, and a member of the Federated Women's Club for over 50 years.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Eldon and Wanda Simonsen of Brainerd, Minn. and Dr. Russ and Eleanor Simonsen of Rock Valley; two daughters and a son-in-law, Ruth and Wallace Sallee of Green Valley, Ariz. and Marjorie Simonsen of Medford, Ore; three sisters, Sophie Carstensen and Dr. Leone Carstensen both of Rochesters, Minn and Annie Stark of Stewartsville, Minn. 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
