Le Mars

Ronald J. Mullally, 69, of Le Mars passed away on Sunday April 10, 2011 at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, following a lengthy illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday April 18, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Le Mars with Reverend Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars with Military Honors provided by the American Legion, Wasmer Post #241.

Visitation will be anytime after 3:00 p.m. Sunday at the Carlsen – Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a Parish rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday morning at St. Joseph’s Church for one hour prior to the Funeral Mass.

Ronald Joseph Mullally was born November 30, 1941 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Michael and Marie (Hames) Mullally. Ron grew up in Le Mars and graduated in 1960 from Gehlen Catholic High School. He attended W.I.T. after graduation receiving an Applied Science Degree. He then worked with M & M Produce, driving truck and catering. Ron served his country with the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, stationed at the Phu Cat Air Base in South Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Le Mars and helped out with the family business, making the Monday Specials at Lally’s Eastside for more than 40 years. Ron relocated to Anaheim, CA for a short time and worked at Rhodes. Returning to Iowa, he joined the Air National Guard. He also worked at Zennith before becoming a full time Air Tech with the 185th. T.F.G. In the 1980’s, he owned and operated Ron’s Drive Inn in Remsen. On May 20, 1989 Ron was united in marriage to Nancy Jensen at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Le Mars. In recent years Ron was the #1 bus driver for the Le Mars Community School District. Ron was deployed during Operation Desert Storm providing comfort in the Comfort Fly Zone in Incirlik, Turkey. He served 30 years in the Air Guard and while on many of his deployments Ron took every opportunity to find an orphanage, and supply the children with candy, clothing, etc. He loved children and was active for many years in the Big Brothers, Big sisters Program. He helped with the Challenger T-Ball League, Soup Kitchen, and was a Foster Parent. Ron loved his family, attended all of his children’s activities, and enjoyed taking them on family vacations.

Ron was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Le Mars and was a member of the American Legion, Wasmer Post #241.

Survivors include his wife Nancy Mullally of Le Mars; four children: Jason (April) Mullally, Raymond Mullally, Makayla Mullally, and Mitchell Mullally, all of Le Mars; a granddaughter Khloe Mullally of Le Mars; three brothers: Michael (Judy) Mullally of Le Mars, Larry (JoEllen) Mullally of Marcus, and Tom (Patty) Mullally of Le Mars; seven sisters: Margene (Joe) Geary of Hinton, Susie (Rocky) Bunjes of Le Mars, Karen (Mike) Pommier of Winterset, IA, JoAnn (Dan “Horn”) Singer, Margie Mullally, Malea (Kim) Penne, and Laura (Dave) Klave, all of Le Mars; two sisters-in-law: Kathy Jensen of Davenport, IA, and Vicki (Stan) Beach of Harrisburg, SD; longtime family friends, Nick Freymann of Le Mars, Chris Hemmelman of Washington, D.C., and Joe Lewis of Fort Dodge, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Peter Mullally in infancy; and a niece Mariah Davis.
