Phyllis Stoos, 87, of Le Mars passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2011 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with Father Kevin Richter officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Le Mars, Iowa. Visitations will be Friday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

Phyllis Evelyn Reints was born December 21, 1923 in Le Mars, Iowa to Henry and Anna Marie (Wilhelmi) Reints. Phyllis attended country school near the family farm north of Le Mars. She loved learning; especially math class. She later received her GED and continued her education at Westmar College. Phyllis was united in marriage to Paul Stoos on June 12, 1945 in New York City where Paul was stationed with the United States Navy. The couple returned to Le Mars in 1948 where they raised their family.

Phyllis loved animals and had a variety of pets throughout her life. She spent many enjoyable hours watching and feeding the birds in her yard and was thrilled one year when a mourning dove made its’ nest in one of her hanging baskets. She also enjoyed many years of gardening and grew beautiful flowers, most notable her peonies, iris, and lilies.

One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards, she belonged to several card clubs through the years. She enjoyed being the “hostess” and took pride in her baking. Her favorite time of the year was the Christmas season. She thoroughly enjoyed decorating and baking, often baking more cookies and candies than anyone could consume. Phyllis loved her home and delighted in trying her hand at decorating.

Phyllis was a representative for Luzier Cosmetics for over 40 years. Through her work, she met many new people and made lots of friends. Phyllis was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, and Catholic Daughters.

Phyllis took great pride in her family. She is survived by her 5 children: Pat Kots and her husband Larry, Susan Meylor and her husband Ray, David Stoos and his wife Marsha, Linda Zeller, and Beth Stoos; 7 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; a sister, Bette Jenkins and her family of Springfield, MO; and several nices and nephews.
