Margaretta Cook, 91, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at her home in Le Mars following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2011 at Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. Reverend Gary Landsness of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Le Mars will officiate. Burial will follow in the Seney Cemetery in Seney. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2011, with the family present from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home. Visitation will resume 1 hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.

Margaretta Tolman was born June 14, 1919 in Sheldon, Iowa the daughter of George and Hattie (Slanke) Tolman. She was raised in Orange City, Iowa where she attended school. Later, she attended Northwestern College in Orange City and National Business Training College in Sioux City, Iowa. After college, Margaretta lived and worked in California and Arizona before returning to Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Gordon Lewis Cook on February 23, 1946 in Long Beach, California. Gordon passed away November 1, 1982.

While living in Orange City, she was a member of Trinity Reformed Church, where she sang in the church choir. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Le Mars Eagle’s Club, and the Le Mars Senior Center. During their retirement years, she and Gordon enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, reading, fancy hand work, sewing, and music. Being wheelchair bound for the past few years, she enjoyed playing cards and visiting with all her friends at Floyd Valley Apartments.

Survivors include her daughter: Loretta Walsh (Tom) of Seney; her son: George Walter Cook (Darline) of Harbor City, CA; her grandchildren: Le Mount D. Lehrman (Angela) and their daughter, Olivia Scarlett of Algonquin, IL, Lyndel Lehrman (Dee) of Seney; her step grandchildren: Mary and Cyndi Walsh of Austin, TX, and Michael and Melanie Gatt of Harbor City, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gordon; her brothers: William Tolman (Christine), George Tolman, and Maurice Tolman; a sister: Alice Van Roekel; and a granddaughter: Lila Jean Lehrman.
