Marie Wagner, 92, of Le Mars passed away Wednesday March 23, 2011 at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday April 2, 2011 at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars with Reverends Matt Hewitt and William Schreiber concelebrating. Inurnment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Remsen. Visitations will be anytime after 5:00 p.m. Friday April 1, 2011 at the Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, where there will be a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to the Funeral Mass at St. James Church on Saturday morning.

The former Marie Martha Galles was born March 30, 1918 on a farm near Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary (Smith) Galles. She married Gilbert “Gib” Wagner June 3, 1941 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. The couple farmed northeast of Remsen in Meadow Township for many years. In 1965, they moved into Remsen. While living in Remsen, Marie worked for the Remsen Public Library. They moved to Le Mars in 1989. Her husband Gib passed away in November of 1991.

Marie was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars and a former longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. She was also a member of the Christian Mothers Society, the Catholic Daughters of America and a 75 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include seven children: Connie (Larry) Stinton of Phoenix, AZ, James (Mary) Wagner of Kingman, AZ, Lynne (Terry) Peters of Kingman, AZ, Barbara (Thomas) Small of Sioux City, IA, Jan (Candy) Wagner of Le Mars, IA, Jay (Deb) Wagner of Spencer, IA, and Gwen (Bruce) Kardell of Spencer, IA; 23 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two sisters-in-law: Mary Jane (Don) Kellen of Le Mars, and Virginia Wagner of Denver, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gilbert “Gib” Wagner; a daughter-in-law Rhonda Wagner; two sisters: Lenore Raher and Armella Heidesch; four brothers: Hilary, Julius, Alphonse, and Louis Galles; and a brother-in-law Reynold Wagner.
