Donald Deiterman, 83, of Merrill passed away Monday, February 28, 2011 at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with Father Dan Greving officiating. Interment with Military Honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post #241 of Le Mars will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be after 5:00 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will continue Friday morning at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

Donald Nicholas Deiterman was born July 31, 1927 on the family farm near Le Mars, Iowa to Pete and Sophie (Steichen) Deiterman. Donald attended country school near his home. As a young man, Don began farming with his parents. Donald served his country in Germany during World War II from October 16, 1945 until his honorable discharge on December 30, 1946. Following his discharge from the service he retuned back to Plymouth County to farm, and to raise cattle and hogs. He remained on his farm West of Le Mars until 1998 when he went to live with his brother, Gerald until his death.

He loved raising livestock. He particularly enjoyed going to Western Nebraska to buy cattle and attend farm sales.

Survivors include his brothers, Gerald Deiterman of Merrill and Leo Deiterman and his wife Lorraine of Merrill; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister-in-law, Glennes Deiterman.
