Le Mars, Iowa – Amanda Haage, 83, of rural Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Monday, February 6, 2006 at her residence. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2006 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church (Preston Township), rural Akron, Iowa. Rev. Jerry Crow will officiate. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars with the family present from 5-8 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.

Amanda Christina Haage was born on February 1, 1923 in Grant Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Adolph and Clara (Kruse) Popken. She attended country school and helped her family with farming.

On September 4, 1949 Amanda and Harvey L. Haage were united in marriage at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Akron, Iowa. They made their home on a farm west of Le Mars where they raised their family.

Amanda was an active member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Throughout the years she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and participated in Ladies Bible Study and Altar Guild.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Paulette Shappell of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; a son Jerome Haage and his wife Julie of Le Mars; six grandchildren Shawna, Matt and Dana Shappell, Jennifer and Luke Haage, Tina Rolfes and her husband Dan; two great-grandchildren Mia and Kaden; two sisters Hilda Renken and Helen Popken both of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harvey in 1991; son Paul in 1992; a daughter-in-law Galene Haage in 1995; a son-in-law Marion Shappell in 2005; sisters Dora Westhoff, Alma Onken, Clara Oetken, Emma Westhoff, Della Dirks as well as an infant sister; and a brother Albert Popken.
