Hamilton, Isabelle Lenox 1828 - 1908

Mrs. Wm. Hamilton died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wilson Miller, five miles northwest of Hawarden, Wednesday morning, Aug. 12, at the advanced age of nearly 80 years.

Isabelle Lenox Blackburn was born in Glasgow, Scotland. Oct. 6, 1828, and came to Ottawa, Can., with her parents when four years of age. On Sept. 2, 1850, she was united in marriage to Wm. Hamilton. In June, 1868, they came to the United States, residing for a time in Sioux City and afterwards moving to Calliope where Mr. Hamilton conducted a small store for a short time. He then took a homestead in Union County and for 38 years Mrs. Hamilton has been a resident of South Dakota.

She leaves two daughters, one sister and two brothers to mourn her death.

She was a member of the Presbyterian church of this city and her life has always been that of a consistent Christian.

The funeral was held today at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Miller and was attended by a large concourse of old friends and neighbors. The services were conducted by Rev. Ambler, pastor of the Presbyterian church, and the remains were laid to rest in Pleasant Valley cemetery beside those of her husband who passed away a number of years previous.
