Paul James Harms, 41, of Le Mars died Thursday, Nov. 10, 1994, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars of cancer.

Services were held Monday, Nov. 14, 1994, at St. James Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Ries and Monsignor Michael Sernett concelebrating. Burial was at St. Peter Cemetery in Brunsville, Iowa, under direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

Mr. Harms was born Feb. 5, 1953, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Harold and Deloris (Janssen) Harms. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Peter Lutheran Church in Brunsville. He was raised in Brunsville and graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1971. As a young man he had coached Little League Baseball in Brunsville. Mr. Harms attended Westmar College, graduating in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business.

After college, he worked for the Le Mars Savings Bank, and later with the Akron Savings Bank. He married Janet Pattee June 23, 1979. in St. John's Catholic Church in Independence, Iowa. For the past 12 years, he worked for Farmers State Bank of Merrill, Iowa, serving as vice president and director. He was also a vice-president and director at the First State Bank of Brunsville and was a director at the Le Mars Bank and Trust. Mr. Harms was a member of Le Mars Sertoma Club, Plymouth County Pheasants Forever, St. James Catholic Church and Le Mars Sportsmen's Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, boating and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Jan; three children. Ellen, Matt and Laura, all of Le Mars; his parents, Harold and Deloris Harms of Brunsville; two sisters, Beth Rollinger of Brunsville and Carol Schmitz of Brunsville; two brothers, Richard Harms of Brunsville and Steve Harms of Le Mars; his maternal grandmother, Adeline Janssen of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, David in 1979.
