Douglas Bruce Buys, 18, Akron, was dead on arrival at the Akron hospital early last Saturday morning following a 1-car accident north of Akron.
Young Buys was southbound on highway 12 north of Akron when his 19S9€hevrolet hit the west side of the bridge abutment about 2:45 a.m. Saturday, according to highway patrolman Richard Helmers. Authorities said young Buys hit the bridge nearly dead center and the bridge ended up nearly next to the car's firewall. Buys was pinned in the wreckage. Investigating officers In addition to patrolman Helmers were sheriff Ed Guntren and Marvin Powell and Jim Hawks of the Akron police.
Funeral services for Douglas were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Church of Christ, Akron, with Rev. Richard Brown officiating. Burial was in Riverside cemetery under direction of the Schroeder funeral home at Akron.
Pall bearers were: Barry Klave, Terry Clarey, Paul McFarland, Kenny Wise, Chuck Moses and Lyle Richardson.
Survivors are his parents Mr. and Mrs. John Buys of Akron; a grandmother, Mrs. Ed Bolton of Bloomfield, Nebr.; four brothers, Dennis of Valley, Nebr., Merlin of Akron, Loren and Robert, both at home; five sisters; Mrs. Harlan Spangler of Fremont, Nebr., Mrs. Paul Lockhorst of Akron, Tamie, Donna and Toni, all at home.
