Irene M. Morehead, 81, of Akron died Thursday (April 30, 1992), at the Akron Convalescent Care Center.

Services were Saturday at First Church of Christ in Akron. Scott Tageson officiated. Burial was in
Riverside cemetery under direction of Schroeder funeral home in Akron.

Tim Kelley, soloist sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Mildred Klemme was organist.

Pallbearers were Todd Sands, Michael Sands, Robert Hoogensen, Donald Stanley, Steve Harding and Lee Harding.

Mrs. Morehead, the former Irene Harding, was born June 30, 1910 in North Yakima, Washington, daughter of William and Katie (Parks) Harding. She moved with her family to Mondamin at age six months. In January 1915 they moved to Plymouth county where she attended rural school in the Adaville area.

She married Marion Morehead, Oct. 30, 1926. The couple farmed in the Akron area until the late 1930s, when they moved into town. She was a waitress in local cafes and later owned and operated the Streetcar Diner. Mr. Morehead died Nov. 1, 1979. In March 1990, she moved to Sioux City, and in March 1992, she became a resident of the Akron Care Center.

Mrs. Morehead was a member of the First Church of Christ in Akron.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Geraldine and John Swisher of Harlan, Iowa and Juanita and Le Roy Sands of Sioux City; five grandchildren; nine greatgrandchilren; one step-daughter, Wilma Morehead of Sioux City; two sisters, her twin, Marie Bauerly of Sioux City and Bertha Shearer of Akron; and a brother, Waldon Harding of Jefferson, S.D.

She was preceded, in death by a stepson, Marvin; a brother, Elmer; and two sisters, Blanche McCrill and Forence Fairbanks.
