Amelia Dewey
Amelia Dewey, 96, of Akron, Ia., died Monday, August 24, 1992, at the Akron Care Center following a long illness.
Services were Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist church in Akron. Rev. Don Greenough officiated. Burial was in Riverside cemetery at Akron, under direction of Schroeder funeral home, Akron.
Jon Harris, soloist, sang "Amazing Grace" and "Just As I Am". Pam Von Hagel was organist.
Pallbearers were Dennis Dewey, Jim Dewey, Roy Rietz, Russell Schnee, Warren Larson and Chuck Dewey.
Mrs. Dewey was born Sept. 17, 1895, near Akron, the daughter of Johan and Clara (Janssen) Theil.
She married Lester Dewey Feb. 17, 1916, at Akron. They lived in the Parker, Hurley and Irene, S.D. areas before moving to Westfield, la. in 1931. They farmed there for a number of years, until he died in November of 1966. She moved to Akron in 1969 and to the Akron Care Center in November 1985.Survivors include three sons and four daughters-in-law, Harvey and Marie of Akron, Mahlon and Blanche of Sumner, Wash., Harlyn of Westfield, Leone of Westfield and Dorothy of Merrill; a daughter and her husband, Eileen and Laurel Franklin of Sioux City; a niece she raised, Amelia Mammen of Le Mars; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren,
a step-grandchild, 8 step-great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Duane and Gene; five grandchildren, two brothers, three sisters, three half-brothers and two half-sisters.
