Dolores C. “Dolly” Klohs, 88, of Orangevale, California, formerly of Le Mars passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the Eskaton Fountain Wood Lodge Assisted Living Center in Orangevale, California. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. Rev. Greg Gabriel of St. John’s Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memories Gardens in Le Mars.

Dolores Catherine Klohs was born New Years Day in 1922. Dolly started life very simply on a farm in the small town of Remsen Iowa, the daughter of Hans Borm and Caroline (Engelbrecht) Klohs. On June 16, 1946, at the age of 24, she married a nearby resident of Le Mars named Murle Klohs. Shortly thereafter they moved to Los Angeles, where Murle pursued his career as a medicinal research chemist and Dolly became a bookkeeper. Dolly also worked part time as an interior decorator, at which she was particularly talented.

Dolly and Murle loved adventure and travel. In their 54 years of marriage, they visited almost every noteworthy local in the world. When Murle retired, they moved to northern California where they built a lovely lake-view home. Here they were able to enjoy golf and boating with their numerous friends in the beautiful, resort-like setting of Lake Wildwood. Dolly contracted mantle cell lymphoma around the middle of 2008. After a struggle of a year and a half, which she bore with great patience and fortitude, she died February 23, 2010 at the age of 88. Dolly was an exceptionally caring and considerate wife, mother and grandmother.

She will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Wendy Soares and Linda Setnik, her two granddaughters, Jennie Cunningham and Angela Soares, and two sons-in-law, Al Soares and Robert Setnik.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Murle on August 21, 2000.
