PHILOMENA E. PETERSEN

LE MARS, Iowa—Philomena E. Petersen, 76, of LeMars, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 1990, in a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in St. James Catholic Church in LeMars with Monsignor Michael Sernett officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today with the rosary recited by the Altar Society at 4 p.m. and a wake service at 7:30 p.m. in Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mrs. Petersen, the former Philomena Kurtzhals, was born March 27, 1913, at Carroll, Iowa, the daughter of Henry A. and Katherine (Mertes) Kurtzhals. She married William H. Petersen Sept. 6, 1941, in LeMars. He died Feb. 5, 1987. She was a cosmetologist. Before moving to LeMars in 1980, she had lived in Sioux City, Omaha, and Rapid City, S.D.

Mrs. Petersen was a member of St. James Catholic Church of LeMars.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Caroline Petersen of Sioux City, Kent and Jeanne Petersen of Littleton, Colo., and Clyde and Ione Petersen of Rapid City, S.D.; two sisters, her twin Jos Treinen of LeMars, and Bertha Hathaway and her husband, Mel, of Miles City, Mont.; and grandchildren, Elizabeth, Brice, Bradley and Karla Petersen.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Albert and a sister, Agnes.
