DONALD J. KOVARNA
MERRILL, Iowa—Donald James Kovarna, 65, rural Merrill, died Sunday at a Sioux City hospital after being stricken at his home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Oleson-Halweg Post 125, American Legion of Merrill. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and Tuesday until service time.
Mr. Kovarna was born May 24, 1919, at Merrill and was raised in the Merrill-Hinton community. He married Eileen M. Montagne May 29, 1944, in Houston, Texas. He was engaged in farming in the Merrill-Hinton area.
He served on the Liberty School Board for several years and the Hinton Co-op for six years. He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1944 until 1947 and was a member of the American Legion. He was a Methodist.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Larry of Merrill and Rick of Marble Falls, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Dale (Linda) Mitchell of Lawton; three brothers, Stanley and Robert, both of Merrill and Marvin of Sioux City; two sisters, Mrs. Bedford (Lois) Newberg of Hinton and Mrs. Wendell (Delores) Parry of Fountain Valley, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.
