FUNERAL FRIDAY FOR WESTMAR EMPLOYEE
Freddie J. Goodchild, 60, who lived in LeMars the last 24 years, died Tuesday (May 2, 1989) at Marian Health Center, Sioux City, after a brief illness.
He was the retired director of the Westmar College physical plant.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at LeMars First Baptist Church with Rev. Gordon Rhodes officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Washington Cemetery, Havelock, Iowa, under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Goodchild was born June 19, 1928, to Fred F. and Dorothy Younggreen Goodchild. He graduated from Mallard, Iowa, High School in 1948, after which he farmed. He married Edith L. Clark, March 14, 1954, at Mondamin after serving in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 in the Korean Theater. He was employed by the Mallard Public School from 1955 to 1965.
The Goodchilds moved to LeMars in 1965.
Survivors are his wife, Edith, LeMars; four daughters, Mrs. Loren (Jill) Johnson, of LeMars, Mrs. David (June) Walker of Montezuma, Kan., Mrs. John (Joanne) Cave of Sergeant Bluffs, and Mrs. Kevin (Joelyn) Wladyka of Moscow, Idaho; a son, Clark Fred Goodchild, of LeMars; 20 grandchildren; two nephews; two brothers, Jack J. and his wife, Ghervus L. Goodchild of Mallard, and Lonnie L. Goodchild of Forest Grove, Ore.; three sisters, Mrs. Janice Cast of West Bend, Mrs. Jim (Joy) Lettow, Alden, Iowa, and Mrs. Tom (Judy) Blome of Iowa Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter in infancy; and a sister, Gay Belk.
