Last Rites Held for Gerd Ludwigs

Funeral services for Gerd J. Ludwigs, 84, long-time Chatsworth resident were held at 2 o’clock, Monday at St. Matthew’s Lutheran church there with Rev. Luther Meyer officiating. Mr. Ludwigs died attempting to mow the lawn at his home Wednesday (June 13, 1962).

Burial was in Riverside cemetery at Akron under the direction of the Barnard Funeral home of Hawarden. Casket bearers include Vernon Kluver, Darrell Kaelke, Gerald Bultman, Lowell Ludwigs, Merlin Ludwigs and James Ludwigs.

Mr. Ludwigs was born December 4, 1878, in Plymouth county, Iowa. He married Mary Borchers January 14, 1903, and they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1953.

The couple farmed many years in the Chatsworth vicinity. He was a charter member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran church.

Survivors include the widow; four daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Kaelke, and Mrs. Minnie Huebner, both of Belgrade, Minnesota, Mrs. Etta Kluver of Farwell, Minnesota and Mrs. Amanda Bultman of Ireton; four sons, Henry of Chatsworth, John of Sioux City, Clarence of Le Mars and Henry and Eilbert, both of Craig, a sister, Mrs. Lena Miniets of Craig; 28 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren.
