Marianne L. Watson, 70, of Le Mars, and formerly of Fort Madison, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005, at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.

Marianne Louisa Watson was born Oct. 28, 1935, in E. St. Louis, Ill., the daughter of Frank Jr. and Margaret (Flack) Rountree. The family moved to Kansas City, Mo., where Marianne graduated from high school in 1952. She would later move to Pasadena, Calif., and work as a secretary. It was in California that she met Darrell Watson. The couple was united in marriage in Belleville, Ill., on July 10, 1954.

In 1961 Marianne and Darrell moved to Florida and lived there a few years prior to moving to Fort Madison, Iowa. She was an active member of St. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Madison and served on its Altar and Rosary Society and assisted with the church altar restoration project.

Marianne was a talented artist and was adept at painting and woodcarving. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting and worked with the Arts Center in Fort Madison.

In August 2005, Marianne and Darrell moved to Le Mars to be closer to their son Tim and his family.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Darrell of Le Mars; a son, Tim and his wife ,Angela and their children, Connor and Noah of Le Mars; an uncle, Joe Rountree of Belleville, Ill.; and an aunt, Peggy Flack of Allen, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother Frank Rountree III.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2006 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Kevin Richter will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church on Thursday prior to Mass.
