Ervin Lassen, 86, of Le Mars, died Monday, May 1, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Ervin Lassen was born March 22, 1920, on the family farm near Remsen, the son of Alfred and Herlig (Mortensen) Lassen. He was baptized and confirmed at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Oyens. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school in Fredonia Township. Ervin was united in marriage to Sadie Mulder on Sept. 5, 1946 in Orange City. Ervin farmed his entire life until retiring to Le Mars.
Ervin was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars and served on the council and was an usher for many years.
Ervin enjoyed all the activities of his children and grandchildren -- music, athletics, and academics. He was so very proud of all of them and loved them dearly. He was an avid Le Mars Bulldog fan. He rarely missed a sporting event or concert.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Sadie of Le Mars; six children: Twila and her husband, Ron Borchers of Akron, Dr. E. Duane and Kathy Lassen of Fort Collins, Colo., Gaylen and Bonnie Lassen of Remsen, Dr. Delwyn and Belinda Lassen of Sioux Center, Arlo Lassen of Greensboro, N.C., and Sherwin and Rhonda Lassen of Remsen; 19 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Marjorie Skordahl and her husband, Gordon of Springfield, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Herlig (Mortensen) Lassen; 2 sisters, Esther Juhl and Agnes Jorgensen.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Greg Gabriel officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. Prayer Service.
Pallbearers will be Duane Lassen, Gaylan Lassen, Delwyn Lassen, Arlo Lassen, Sherwin Lassen, and Ronald Borchers.
