JOE R. SHILT

LE MARS, Iowa—Joe R. Shilt, 91, of LeMars, died Sunday in a nursing home in LeMars after a three-week illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church in LeMars. The Rev. Gordon Rhodes will officiate. Burial will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today in the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mr. Shilt was born Feb. 19, 1895, in Newtown, Mo. He married Hazel Summers Oct. 8, 1921, in Powersville, Mo. The couple came to LeMars in 1938. She died in 1963.

He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years.

Mr. Shilt was a member of the First Baptist Church, Rural Letter Carriers Association, and Masonic Lodge of LeMars. He was a Navy veteran of World War I and a 69-year member of the American Legion.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Joann) Albert of LeMars; a grandson, and three great-grandchildren.
