Jane E. Mauer, 86, of Le Mars, died Monday, March 22, 2004, at The Abbey of Le Mars.

Jane Elizabeth Mauer was born Dec. 30, 1917, in Le Mars, the daughter of Lloyd Edwin and Martha (Beely) Mauer. She received her education in Le Mars, graduating from Le Mars High School in 1935. She continued her education at National Business Training in Sioux City, where she studied to be an executive secretary. Upon completion of her training she began working for various law firms in Le Mars. She was employed with Hoorneman and Dull; Roseberry, Pitts and Down; and retired from Bauerly, Down, Hemmingson and Trotzig in 1987 with 50 years of service.

Jane was an involved member of the First United Methodist Church in Le Mars. She taught Sunday School, was an Evening Circle member and was church organist for many years. She played for numerous funerals, weddings, and vacation Bible school as well as sing-a-longs at The Abbey of Le Mars.

Jane was recognized as the first Chamber of Commerce Secretary of the Year and also as a Chamber Employee of the Month. The Abbey of Le Mars presented her with the Volunteer of the Year Award in 1999.

Surviving family members include four sisters, Helen Saienga and her husband, Emory, of Le Mars, Dorothy Tammes and her husband Earl, of Le Mars, Ruth Schultz of Sioux City, and Carol Strope of Boise, Idaho; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother Minnie (Kammerer) Mauer; a brother, Robert Mauer and his wife, Ethel; a sister, Eloise Meadows and her husband Vard; two brothers-in-law Karl Schultz and Kindall Strope.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Le Mars. Pastor Jason Larson will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.

Pallbearers will be Scott Saienga, John Schultz, Steve Saienga, Jim Lorenzen, Jim Hopkins, Richard Bauerly and Don Butcher.

Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church or Hospice of Siouxland.
