Anna H. Charlson, 86, of Le Mars, died early Sunday, March 12, 2006, at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.
Anna Henrietta Grosenheider was born Jan. 18, 1920, on the family farm in Grant Township, rural Le Mars the daughter of Emil and Anna (Pageler) Grosenheider. Anna was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Grant Township. She attended country school west of Le Mars. Anna was united in marriage to Ernest Charlson July 19, 1938, at the church parsonage of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars.
Anna and Ernest made their home in Le Mars. They owned and operated Pilley's Produce which later became Charlson Produce for many years. Following the sale of the business, Anna went to work at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center. In 1966, she began her 35-year career at the Le Mars Veterinary Clinic as their secretary. She continued working for the clinic until her retirement in 2001. Anna was a very industrious woman. She had built and sold several homes in Le Mars throughout the years.
Anna was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars and belonged to the Dorcas Circle. She enjoyed dancing, going to sporting events, and traveling with the bank travel group. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children and in later years she treasured the time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Ron and his wife Nancy Charlson of Le Mars, Arliss and her husband, Doug Wickstrom of Bellaire, Mich., Ronda and her husband, Dr. Charles Keenan of Le Mars, Roxanne Charlson of Cambridge, Minn., and Steve and his wife, Pam Charlson of Traverse City, Mich.; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Arlene and her husband, Bill Grady of Le Mars; a brother, Emil Grosenheider of Le Mars; three sisters-in-law, Florence, Margaret, and Ruby Grosenheider all of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Charlson in 1968; three sisters, Minnie Ruether, Lula McClintock, and Lorraine Pennings; and four brothers, Henry, Alvin, Lloyd, and Bill Grosenheider.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. with the Rev. Greg Gabriel officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 6 p.m. followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. to service time.
Pallbearers will be Doug Charlson, Doug Wickstrom Jr., Mike Yates, Jeff Charlson, Mark Mrla, and Tim Grady.
