REMSEN, Iowa -- Val H. Weinreich, 60, of Remsen died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen, with the Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Burial will be in Remsen City Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Weinreich was born Aug. 27, 1941, in Correctionville, Iowa, the son of Vernon and Irma (Florke) Weinreich. He was raised in the Correctionville area and received his education at Pierson Community School, graduating in 1960. He then began working at Irwin's DX Station in Pierson, Iowa.
He married Jeanne Wieck on Sept. 8, 1963, in Pierson. They made their home in Sioux City. He began working at the Frontier Station in Remsen in 1964. In 1965 the couple moved into Remsen, where he worked at various jobs. He worked for the Remsen-Union Community School as a mechanic and also a bus driver for 22 years. He started Weinreich Repair in 1990 and later established VIP Towing.
He was a member of the Remsen Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Pat, of Remsen; a brother and his wife, Chris and Karen Weinreich of Correctionville; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Steven.
