AKRON, Iowa -- Michael John Rohlfs, 27, of Akron passed away unexpectedly at his residence.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church ELCA in Akron, with the Rev. Jean Morse officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home, Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Michael John Rohlfs was born Nov. 4, 1976, in Akron, the son of Arlo Rohlfs and Barbara (Uithoven) Schiefen. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith on Dec. 12, 1976, at Trinity Lutheran Church ELCA in Akron. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on Oct. 27, 1991, at Trinity Lutheran Church ELCA. He attended school in Akron and graduated in 1995 from Akron-Westfield Community School. He attended college at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, where he received his degree in welding. He worked as a welder for various businesses and was currently employed at Link Manufacturing in Sioux Center, Iowa.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church ELCA and the Future Farmers of America Alumni. He loved the outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting, farming and snowmobiling. He loved John Deere tractors and Ford trucks. He also enjoyed the times spent with his family and friends.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Schiefen and her special friend, Gene Clark of Minneapolis; his father, Arlo Rohlfs and his wife, Trish of Akron; a sister, Emma Rohlfs of Akron; his maternal grandmother, Gert Uithoven of Akron; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Lenora and Roland Rohlfs; maternal grandfather, James Uithoven; and a sister, Michelle Rohlfs in 1979.

Pallbearers will be Tim Melton, Chris Melton, Austin Wilms and Nathan Wilms.
