SIOUX CITY -- Ross Heaton King, 84, of Sioux City passed away Monday, April 13, 2009, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.

Memorial services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Paul Johnson officiating. The body will be cremated. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Ross H. King was born May 2, 1924, on a country farm south of Le Mars, Iowa, to Vernon A. King and "Helen" May King. He graduated from Le Mars High School in 1942.

He married Maxine Sampson in 1944. He served his country as a navigator with the 8th Air Force, 305th Bomb Group, 364th Bomb Squadron. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1949. He was a retired partner with the certified public accounting firm, King, Reinsch, Prosser and Co. His word was his bond.

He was a member of the Iowa Board of Certified Public Accountants, American Society of CPAs, Siouxland Estate Planning Council, Trinity Lutheran Church, Sioux City Lion's Club, Iowa Alumni Association, 305th Bomb Group and the Sioux City Scottish Rite Mason Consistory.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine; his sons, David Ross King and Robert A. King, both of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Susan Lantz (Mitch) of Waterloo, Iowa; three grandchildren, Emily (Matt) Nolting, Steven (Jessica) Schmitt and Andrew (Megan) Schmitt; three stepgrandchildren, Jeffrey, Nathan and Erica Lantz; two great-grandchildren, Jack and Avery Nolting; a sister-in-law, Jean King; and a niece, Sandy King.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert V. King; and a niece, Barbara Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, Ross requested memorials be directed to his great-grandchildren's college education, Trinity Lutheran Church, Hospice of Siouxland or the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
