AKRON, Iowa -- Raymond A. Norton, 92, of Akron died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at Akron City Convalescent Care Center.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Akron, with the Rev. Larry Madsen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Raymond Alvin Norton was born May 9, 1911, in Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Egbert and Fayetta (Fletcher) Norton. He attended rural Plymouth County school.

He married Dorothy Newman on Feb. 4, 1935 at the Full Gospel Mission in Le Mars, Iowa. He farmed all his life in Plymouth County in Merrill, Brunsville, Le Mars and Akron, Iowa areas. They sold their farm east of Akron in 1975 and retired to Sioux City and later to Akron. Mrs. Norton preceded him in death in September 1999. After his wife's death, he lived in Akron until June 2000, when he moved to Bellevue, Neb. In October 2002, he moved to the Akron Care Center, where he enjoyed visits from family and friends.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a honorary deacon.

He is survived by a son and his wife, Donald and Naomi Norton of Bellevue, Neb.; five daughters, H. Carol Sattoriva of Great Falls, Mont., Betty and her husband, Sig Stenlund, of Boulder, Colo., Joyce and her husband, Larry Madsen, of Sioux City, Judith and her husband, Terry Kenealy, of York, Neb., and Sheryl and her husband, Glen Rippke, of Ames, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Herb and Mary Norton of Loveland, Colo.; a sister, Marjorie Braun of Denver, Colo.; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a great-grandson; two brothers, Lloyd and Ward Norton; and two sisters, Opel Norton and Vivian Orban.

Pallbearers will be Steve and Scott Norton, Danny, Randy and Rick McCamley, David Madsen, Gordy and Heath Johnson, Joe Rippke, Dale Anson, Ed McGee, Mike Turner, Jeff Jones, Matt Dendy, Brett Urban, Tim Kohn and Dwaine Purdy.
