LAWTON, Iowa -- Andrew D. Nitzschke, 74, of Lawton died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, with the Rev. Bruce Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8:30 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Nitzschke was born Oct. 8, 1928, in Remsen, Iowa, the son of Otto and Eda (Scott) Nitzschke. He was raised in Remsen and graduated from Remsen High School with the class of 1947. He worked at Jim Klein Trucking and Arens-Jaminet Trucking in Remsen and at Midwest Services. He owned and operated the Coffee Nook and Dairy O Drive Inn in Remsen. He entered the military service in 1951 and served in the U.S. Army during the time of the Korean conflict.

He married DeLoris A. Bockelmann on Feb. 20, 1955, in Remsen. The couple moved to Lawton in 1959, and had lived there since. While in Lawton, he worked for 26 years for Herman Trucking Co., retiring in 1985. After his retirement, he became a substitute mail carrier in Lawton.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 718 of Lawton, where he served as commander for 18 years. He also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3328 of Remsen. He served on the town council and was a former member of the Teamsters Union.

He is survived by his wife, DeLoris Ann Nitzschke of Lawton; two sons, Stuart Nitzschke of Hornick, Iowa, and Jeff Nitzschke and his wife, Holly of Lawton; a daughter and her husband, Cindy and R. Scott Herbold of Lawton; two brothers and their wives, Warren and Marie Nitzschke of Waterloo, Iowa, and Lynn and Patty Nitzschke of Springfield, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Richard (Sally) Nitzschke of Remsen; and six grandchildren, Heidi (Henry) Boeschen, Kirby and A.J. Nitzschke and Robert, David and William Herbold.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Nitzschke; and a grandson, Dustin Nitzschke.

Pallbearers will be Jim Willer, Jerry Witt, Henry Schuur, Bob Andrus, Bill Kisting and Boone DeWall. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
