REMSEN, Iowa -- Robert A. "Bob" Nothem, 42, of Remsen died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2003, of injuries suffered in an farming accident near Remsen.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating and assisted by Deacon Jerome Reicks Sr. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a Catholic Order of Foresters rosary at 8 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mr. Nothem was born Sept. 13, 1961, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Hubert and Bertha (Bindner) Nothem. He was raised on the family farm south of Remsen and graduated from Remsen-Union High School in 1980. Over the years, he had been employed at Harkers in Orange City, Iowa, Packer Land in Hospers, Iowa, and then with Russell's Ready Mix in Orange City. He was presently in partnership with his brother, Mike, in farming the family farm, raising cattle and hog confinements.

He was engaged to be married to Jan Beck.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Catholic Order of Foresters.

He is survived by his fiancee, Jan Beck and her children, Erin and Madison, all of Remsen; his father, Hubert of Remsen; two brothers and their wives, Ted and Marcia and Mike and Becky, all of Remsen; two sisters, Christine Reicks of Sioux City, and Terri and her husband, Michael Slota of Remsen; a brother-in-law, David Shea of San Jose, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bertha; a sister, Pamela Shea; and a nephew, Michael Nothem.

Pallbearers will be Greg Shea, Rick, Troy and Todd Nothem, Jerry Reicks III, Christopher and Jonathan Reicks. Honorary pallbearers will be Julie Sargisson, Ahnna Reicks, Lori Nothem, Kelly Tentinger, Courtney Eggers and Rosie Slota.
