LE MARS, Iowa -- Steven H. Musson, 54, of Le Mars passed away Sunday, May 12, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital due to complications following surgery.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary United Methodist Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Tom Shinkle officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at the church. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the services Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Steven Harrison Musson was born Dec. 27, 1947, in Waukeegan, Ill., to Merle and Bette (Mott) Musson. He was raised in the Oelwein, Iowa, area, and graduated from Oelwein High School in 1966. He continued his education at Upper Iowa College in Fayette, Iowa, where he majored in history education. Steve graduated from college in 1971 and made his home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

On Dec. 18, 1971, Steve and Janet Gail Barry were united in marriage in Cedar Rapids. The couple lived in Cedar Rapids, where he worked for Iowa Mutual Insurance Company.

Steve and his family moved to Le Mars in 1974. He worked at Le Mars Mutual Insurance Company prior to 1985, when he formed the Le Mars Insurance Agency, which he currently owned and operated. He also was co-director of the Le Mars Ambulance Service for the past 27 years.

He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. He devoted a great deal of his time to the community. He was presently serving as the Plymouth County Disaster Services director, seated on the board of directors at Floyd Valley Hospital and Plymouth Life and served in various capacities on the county and state levels of Emergency Management Services. He had served on the Le Mars Community School Board, was active in the Le Mars Community Theater, past Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks and was currently a member of Le Mars Sertoma and an active member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Iowa.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Janet of Le Mars; a daughter and her husband, Jennifer and Bill Hamilton of Sioux City; a son, Alex Musson of Le Mars; his father, Merle of Isabella, Mo.; two sisters, Judi and her husband, Lyle Youngblut of Pocatello, Idaho, and Linda Kobliska of Elgin, Ill.; and his mother-in-law, father-in-law, brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Bette.
