LE MARS, Iowa -- Marvin Klein, 68, of Le Mars passed away Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, at The Abbey of Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., a Scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.

Marvin Joseph Klein was born March 25, 1936, in Granville, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Mary (Hoffman) Klein. The family moved to Ashton, Iowa, shortly after his birth. In 1954, he graduated from St. Joseph's Parochial High School in Ashton.

He was inducted in the U.S. Army on Oct. 11, 1956, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He trained as a radio operator and served overseas in Germany. He was honorably discharged on June 27, 1958. He returned to the area, where he operated a gravel truck.

On Feb. 27, 1960, he and Carol Reuter were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, Iowa. They lived in Ashton for a year prior to moving to Sheldon, Iowa. He worked for Northern Bio-Chemical and Firestone Tire. In 1965, the family moved to Le Mars, where he started his 28 year career with Wells' Dairy. He started as a route delivery driver and retired in 1993 from the warehouse division. He later moved to The Abbey of Le Mars in 2003.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid sports fan, who followed and enjoyed all types of athletics.

He will be lovingly remembered by a son and his wife, Kevin and Cindy of South Sioux City and their daughter, Gina; a daughter and her husband, Shelly and Tom Poeckes of Le Mars and her children, Bryan, Cory and Joshua Reuter; a daughter, Carla Helms and her special friend, Earl Irvin of Overland Park, Kan. and her children, Nikki and Erin Helms; a daughter, Deann Lawrence of Sioux City and her children, Blake Laughton and Brandon Lawrence; a son, Steve of Le Mars and his children, Austin, Alex and Ashtyn Klein; a daughter and her husband, Kerri and Steve Riedemann of Le Mars and their children, Aric, Dustin, Jared and Jacob; a son, Dan of Le Mars; a son, Kyle and his special friend, Julie Strong of Yankton, S.D. and his children, Jessica, MaKayla and Jordan Klein; a daughter and her husband, Jodi and Zach Sitzmann of West Des Moines and their children, Gage and Elias; a daughter and her husband, Jill and Travis Holzman of Le Mars and their child, Jace; three brothers, Leo Klein and

his wife, Margie, Richard Klein and his wife, Georgia and Sylvester "Ves" Klein, all of Ashton; three sisters, Sylvia and her husband, Ed Blocker of Bancroft, Iowa, Christina Houwen of Ashton and Angela Dummitt of Britt, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Sally Klein of Ashton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Brad Reuter; brothers, Edwin "Chuck", Louis and Andrew Klein; brothers-in-law, Bill Houwen and Bill Dummitt; and a sister-in-law, Joan Klein.
