REMSEN, Iowa -- Donald Klein, 55, of Remsen died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a Catholic Order of Foresters rosary at 8 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Mr. Klein was born May 26, 1947, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Melinda (Plathe) Klein. He was raised in Remsen and received his education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen. He was then employed at Klein Shelling and Painting in Remsen.
On April 22, 1967, he married Marlene Feeck in Remsen, where they made their home. He was then employed at Community Co-op of Remsen for approximately 23 years, until 1992. At that same time, he was part owner of Klein Trucking of Remsen, which he was currently engaged. He also drove for Glover-Poeckes Trucking out of Remsen.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include his wife, Marlene of Remsen; two sons, Steven J. and Tim, both of Remsen; a daughter and her husband, Tracey and Chuck Wurth of Remsen; a grandson, Jared Wurth of Remsen; a granddaughter, Megan Wurth of Remsen; nine sisters, Mavis Kunkel, Carol and her husband, Donald Ruba, Susan and her husband, Al Vaske, Marilyn Treinen and Marlys Ohlendorf, all of Remsen, Nancy and her husband, Rick Loehr of Enid, Okla., Elaine and her husband, Fred Jungers of Sheldon, Iowa, and Alice Klein and Norma Klein, both of Stafford, Texas; four brothers, Elmer and his wife, Jan, Malcolm, Alan and his wife, Lorelei, and Chuck and his wife, Joan, all of Remsen; a sister-in-law and her husband, Gerianne and George Olson of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas and Dennis; and two brothers-in-law, Donald Kunkel and Fred Treinen.
Pallbearers will be Rick Berendes, Russ Delperdang, Ryan Feeck, Kenny Klein, Dennis Phillips and Dave Poeckes. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Larry and Ronald Galles, Alan and Benjamin Klein, Mark Poeckes and Stephen Matgen.
