MARY ANN SORGDRAGER

LeMars, Iowa—Mary Ann Sorgdrager, 53, of Le Mesa, Calif., formerly of LeMars, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2006, at Magnolia Special Care in El Cajon, Calif.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars with the Rev. Randy Widbin officiating. Burial will be Memorial Cemetery in LeMars. Visitation will begin at noon Sunday with the family present 2 to 4 p.m. and a prayer service at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Monday until service time at the funeral home.

Mary Ann Sorgdrager was born November 1, 1952, in LeMars, the daughter of Warren Alvin and Mary Christina (Gravenish) Sorgdrager. She graduated from LeMars High School in 1970. Mary Ann later continued her education and earned a master’s degree from the University of South Dakota.

She moved to California where she worked with Child Protective Services in San Diego County. She also trained new child protection social workers at the Public Child Welfare Academy.

Mary Ann was a member of the Seaside Church of Encintas. She was also a member of Spiritmaster Toasters group and had served the club as treasurer and vice president of education. Her speeches usually focused on uplifting people and ways they could reach their highest potential.

Mary Ann loved San Diego and the ocean. She was an adventurous spirit and loved to learn new things. She enjoyed parasailing, skydiving, and traveling. She cherished her time she spent with her family and friends and touched many lives with her wonderful spirit and laughter.

She will be lovingly remembered by her parents, Warren and Mary Sorgdrager of LeMars; three sisters, Linda Lubben and her husband Denny, of LeMars, Connie Sorgdrager of San Diego, Calif., and Susie Miller and her husband, Mark, of Sioux Center, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Julie and Doug Bundy of Akron, Iowa, Lori and Roger Neyens of LeMars, Alan and Kara Miller, of Sioux Center, and Adam Miller, of Sioux Falls, S.D.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Transcriber's Note: She is the daughter of Warren and Mary Sorgdrager. According to her tombstone, she was born 11/1/1952. She is buried in LeMars Memorial Cemetery, Block 16-S.
