SPOUSE & DATE & PLACE of 1st MARRIAGE: Elvera Marple, May 27, 1936, at the Brule Creek Lutheran Church.

OCCUPATION: He remained on the farm until his mother died in 1920. He was a hired hand for neighbors before working for Knute Quall for six years and Ed Lewison for several years. He and his brother, Chris, farmed together for several years before he started on his own. He was a lifelong farmer. He was known as the Gopher Man in the area. He retired in 1987 and entered the nursing home June 1, 1993.
MEMBER OF: Brule Creek Lutheran Church, where he was a trustee and financial secretary. He also served on the Pleasant Hill School board for several years.
SURVIVORS: …include his wife; a son, Dallas and his wife, Clarice of Akron; a daughter, Illa Belle Bong of Fort Payne, Ala.; six grandchildren, Brian, Craig, Angela, Tim Wilken, Rela Layson and Jason Bong.
PRECEDED in DEATH by: …a brother, Chris; and three sisters, Freda, Menga and Anne.
PLACE OF BURIAL: Brule Creek Lutheran Church cemetery, rural Elk Point, S.D.
