Warren A. Sorgdrager, 83, of the Craig area, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Warren Alvin Sorgdrager, the son of James and Etta (Van Steenwyk) Sorgdrager, was born Sept. 21, 1923, on his family's farm near Melvin. The family moved to Le Mars when Warren was young. He graduated from Le Mars High School in 1941. On Sept. 20, 1945, Warren enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country until he received his honorable discharge on Feb. 26, 1946. He returned to the area following World War II.

On Dec. 23, 1947, Warren and Mary Christena Gravenish were united in marriage at the Maryhill Catholic Church Rectory in Cherokee. They made their home on a farm one mile north of Craig. They raised their family and farmed near Craig until moving into Craig in 1995.

Warren was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble. He was also a member of the Heeren-McHale-Wilken American Legion Post #724 of Brunsville.

Warren was a devoted husband and father and cherished the time he spent with his family.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Mary of the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars; three daughters, Linda Lubben and her husband, Dennis of Le Mars, Connie Sorgdrager of San Diego, Calif., and Susan Miller and her husband Mark of Sioux Center; four grandchildren, Julie and Doug Bundy of Akron, Lori and Roger Neyens of Le Mars, Alan and Kara Miller of Sioux Center, and Adam Miller of Sioux Center; four great-grandchildren Brandon Neyens, Ashley Neyens, Quinn Warren Bundy, and Autumn Bundy; a sister, Charlotte and Joe DeYoung of Craig, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Mary; three infant sons Earl, James and Robert, and three brothers Kenneth, Earl and James.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble with the Rev. Dan Grieving officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars with a time of lunch and fellowship to follow at the Mauer-Johnson Family Gathering Room. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church. A rosary service will be at 4 p.m. with a Scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Friday.
