HINTON, Iowa -- Donald Frederick Wenzel, 71, of Hinton died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 1995, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Hillview (actually Hillside) at Merrill with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 477 of Hinton. Visitation will be after 6 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Mr. Wenzel was born Sept. 2, 1923, on the family farm in Lyon County, the son of Fritz and Edna (Stoltenberg) Wenzel. He received his education in Alvord and Lester, graduating from Lester High School in 1942. He sered in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Carolyn Searls in 1959 at Le Mars. He was engaged in farming in the Larchwood and Inwood areas. The couple moved to Hinton in 1968 and he was employed by IBP Inc. in Dakota City, until his retirement in 1991.
Mr. Wenzel was a member of the Hinton American Legion Post 477.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Roger and Lori of Milwaukee, Wis., David and Kim of Merrill and Bruce and Connie of Hinton; three grandchildren, Ryan; Riley and Morgan; four brothers and their wives; Wallace and Joyce of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Robert and Elda of Bella Vista, Ark.; Charles and Jan of Pinos Altos, N.M.; and Douglas and Joan of Lester, and two sisters; Janet and her husband, Ray Hinkel of Sioux City and Deloris Nickel of Round Lake, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
