REMSEN, Iowa -- Jane Staab, 48, of Remsen died Saturday, April 16, 2005, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa, after a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Remsen. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Jane was born in Le Mars on June 14, 1956, the daughter of Richard and Elaine (Tentinger) Staab. She was raised in the Remsen area and received her education at St. Mary's Catholic School from which she graduated in 1974. She then attended Iowa Central Community College at Fort Dodge, graduating in 1976 with a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse.

She was then employed at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City. In January of 1978, she moved to Cody, Wyo., where she was employed at West Park Community Hospital. On July 23, 1978, while she was home on vacation, she was injured in an automobile accident near Homer, Neb. and suffered a permanent brain injury and was since disabled. She then lived at her parents' home near Remsen, where her family cared for her. In May, 1997, she entered the Happy Siesta Health Care Center.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. When she was in school, she was a cheerleader, enjoyed being in plays, was in the school band and was a 4-H member. Jane enjoyed listening to music and loved being in the outdoors.

Survivors include her mother, Elaine Staab of Remsen; three brothers and their wives, Roger and Renee of Crawford, Neb., John and Kathy of Le Mars and Philip and Diane of Remsen; two sisters, Sue Hoesing of Sioux City and Mary and her husband, Dave Plathe of Remsen; as well as numerous aunts and uncles and nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard; a brother, Mark; paternal grandparents, Frank and Minnie Staab; and maternal grandparents, Peter and Mary Tentinger.

Pallbearers will be Jim Brown, Krystal and Nick Hoesing, Kristine McDermott, Rick Plathe and Emily Staab. Honorary pallbearers will be Amanda Buss, Kim Elliott, Sarah Haverkamp, Kara Penning, Becky and Jackie Staab.
