WESTFIELD, Iowa -- Lester Stevens, 92, of Westfield passed away Friday, April 22, 2005, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab in Sioux City.
The body was cremated. Graveside services will be at later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Lester Stevens was born on Sept. 18, 1912, on a farm north of Kingsley, Iowa, to Ray and Ina (Efner) Stevens. He had lived all his life in Plymouth County. In Lester's younger days, he was a trapper, hunter and fisherman, and the hunting and fishing carried through to his later years.
He married Nora (Goldsborough) Dye in Sioux City on Sept. 20, 1932. They were later divorced. On Oct. 23, 1956, he married Ruby (Kellogg) Warren. Lester was a house painter and carpenter by trade, trading it in for a septic tank service. Upon retirement, he took up the hobby of painting pictures.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby; a daughter and her husband, Wilma and Arnold Hummel of Akron, Iowa; a stepson and his wife, Robert and Eva Dye of California; grandchildren, Veronica (William) Porter of Harrison, Neb., Richard and Linda Hummel of Dodge City, Kan., and Alan and Pamela Hummel of Indianola, Iowa; eight great-grandchildren; two great-stepgrandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; a brother; a great-grandson; and numerous other relatives.
