Thomas J. Trobaugh, 56, of Le Mars, died suddenly Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, in Ogden, Utah.

Thomas John Trobaugh was born Oct. 21, 1952, at Le Mars, the son of John and Dorothy (Downing) Trobaugh. Tom was baptized and confirmed at Calvary Methodist Church. He attended school in Le Mars and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1971. Following high school, Tom attended Westmar College for two years. He then went to work as an optical assistant in Sioux City and later in Kansas City.

Tom joined the United States Air Force in June of 1976. He was stationed at Hill Air Force Base Utah where he worked as an air refueling specialist. Tom was honorably discharged from the Air Force in April 1980 as a sergeant. He continued to work at the air base as a civil service employee working with the air refueling attachment at the base until September 1996. Tom then moved back to Le Mars to be near family.

He had worked part-time for Le Mars Ford delivering parts throughout northwest Iowa.

Tom enjoyed going camping with family and pheasant hunting. He was a member of Pheasants Forever for several years.

Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Trobaugh of Le Mars; a brother, Mark Trobaugh of Le Mars; a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Glen Kruse of Sioux City; a step-daughter and her husband, Alexandra and Brian Bingham and their three children of Roy, Utah; two nephews, Justin Kruse and his wife Jodee and their daughter Kamryn of Houston, Texas and Kevin Kruse of Sioux City; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, John Thomas Trobaugh Dec. 13, 2006.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Le Mars with the Rev. Jason Larson officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post #241 of Le Mars will be at the Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitations will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Funeral arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Buhman, Tom Vance, Kevin Kruse, Denny Harms, Neal Oetken, and Dan Wells.
