Elnora T. (Tucker) Jenkins, 80, of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City.

Elnora T. (Tucker) Jenkins was born Feb. 16, 1928, in Grant Township, near Le Mars, the daughter of Elmer and Hannah (Mammen) Tucker. In 1944, she started out as a paper "boy" for The Sioux City Journal. She was employed with Cudahy Meat Packing Plant, where she met Alfred.

She married Alfred L. Jenkins Aug. 9, 1947, in Sioux City. He preceded her in death May 22, 1972, in Omaha, Neb. She received her general education diploma in 1975 from Western Iowa Tech Community College. After raising her children, she was employed with Briar Cliff University in housekeeping from 1975 until her retirement in 1990.

In her free time, she loved gardening, reading, travel and collecting recipes. She was a member of Westlawn Presbyterian Church. She volunteered as a Girl Scout leader for her daughter's troop.

Survivors include a son, Ronald A. Jenkins, Lt. Col., USAFR, retired of McCook Lake, S.D.; two daughters, Cindy A. Verbeski of Sioux City and Vickie L. and her husband, Craig Carroll of North Sioux City, S.D.; two brothers, Merlin Tucker of Sioux City and Eldon "Doc" Tucker of Dakota City, Neb.; two sisters, Mersella Estochen and Margaret Neely, both of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Lisa and her husband, Joey of Little Falls, Minn., Bill and his wife Laura McArdle of Sioux City, Shaun McArdle of Sioux City, Dan McArdle of Sioux City and Michael Jenkins of McCook Lake, S.D.; and three great-grandchildren, Emily, Carter and Hailey McArdle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Arnold Tucker; and a son-in-law, Rick "Ski" Verbeski.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Westlawn Presbyterian Church, 2521 West Fourth Street, Sioux City, with the Rev. Paul Speidel officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, 3220 Stone Park Blvd., Sioux City.

Pallbearers will be her family, Bill, Shaun, Dan, Michael, Craig and Joey.
